Spring Swap Event

When: May 18th @ 11:00AM

Where: Health 1st Office

Greetings, fellow health-conscious readers!

In this edition of our newsletter, we're diving into the realm of healthy household and makeup swaps – simple changes you can make to create a healthier environment for you and your loved ones.

Household Products Swap

Switch to Natural Cleaning Products:

Swap out chemical-laden cleaners for natural alternatives like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice. Not only are these options safer for your health, but they're also gentler on the environment. We will highlight and share some of the common cleaning

Choose Non-Toxic Cookware:

Replace non-stick pans with cast iron, stainless steel, or ceramic options. Non-toxic cookware reduces the risk of harmful chemicals leaching into your food, especially at high temperatures.

Opt for Organic Bedding:

Upgrade your bedding to organic cotton or bamboo sheets. Conventional bedding can contain pesticides and other chemicals that may disrupt sleep and impact overall health.

Filter Your Water:

Invest in a quality water filter to remove impurities and contaminants from your tap water. This simple swap can improve the taste and quality of your drinking water while reducing exposure to harmful substances. The EPA just passed a standard to limit the amount of PFAS’s in tap water after determining how they are linked to liver disease, high cholesterol, and cancer. Check out the full article below.

Ditch Plastic Containers:

Transition to glass or stainless steel containers for storing food and beverages. Plastic containers can leach harmful chemicals like BPA and phthalates into your food, especially when heated. You should never microwave food in plastic containers.

Switch to Natural Personal Care Products:

Explore natural alternatives for personal care items such as soap, shampoo, and toothpaste. Look for products free from parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances. See our healthy makeup swaps below.

Grow Your Own Herbs:

Start an indoor herb garden to have fresh, organic herbs at your fingertips. Not only does this encourage healthy eating, but it also adds natural fragrance and greenery to your home.

By incorporating these healthy household swaps into your lifestyle, you can create a safer and more sustainable environment for yourself and your family. Small changes can add up to significant improvements in both health and well-being.

Makeup Swaps

Choose Clean Beauty Brands:

Opt for makeup brands that prioritize natural, non-toxic ingredients. Look for products free from parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances to minimize the risk of irritation and long-term health effects. INIKA Organic, 100% Pure, Juice Beauty, and ZAO Organic are all clean beauty brands to start switching makeup products.

Switch to Mineral Foundation:

Swap out traditional liquid foundations for mineral-based alternatives. Mineral foundations are lightweight, non-comedogenic, and offer natural sun protection.

Try Natural Lipsticks:

Replace conventional lipsticks containing potentially harmful ingredients with natural and organic lip products. These alternatives often use nourishing ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, and botanical extracts to hydrate and protect the lips.

Carbon Black is used in many lipsticks and is a known carcinogen.

Opt for Non-Toxic Nail Polish:

Choose nail polish brands such as Olive and June that are free from harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate. Look for water-based or "5-free" formulas that provide vibrant color without compromising nail health. Less toxic brands include Ten Over Ten, Ella + Mila, Essie, Base Coat, and Smith & Cult.

Swap Synthetic Fragances for Essential Oils:

Avoid makeup products containing synthetic fragrances, which can be irritating to the skin and may contain hidden chemicals. Instead, opt for products scented with natural essential oils or fragrance-free options. You can even DIY your own perfume, learn more at Essential Haven below!

Consider Multi-Use Products:

Streamline your makeup routine by opting for multi-use products that serve multiple purposes, such as a tinted moisturizer with SPF or a lip and cheek tint. This reduces the number of products you need while minimizing exposure to potentially harmful ingredients.

By making these healthy makeup swaps, you can enhance your beauty routine while prioritizing the health and vitality of your skin. Remember, beauty is not just about looking good – it's about minimizing the impact the products have on your health!
